1 Simple Harmonic Motion
When a family of 4 people with a total mass of 200 kg step into a 1200 kg car, the car’s springs compress an additional 3.0 cm. a) What is the spring constant of the car’s springs (assume they act as a single spring) b) How far will the spring compress if loaded with 300 kg?

2 1) Constructive interference occurs wherever a crest (thick line) meets a crest or a trough (thin line) meets a trough; this type of interference results in the formation of an  anti-nodal 2) Destructive interference occurs wherever a crest meets a trough; this type of interference results in the formation of a  nodal 3) The difference in distance from the two sources for every point on the 1st antinodal is  1 λ 4) The difference in distance from the two sources for every point on the 1st nodal is  1/2 λ

3 Reflection 15.0 cm A How far along the segment AB will the ray strike?

4 Interactions at Boundaries
How do reflected transverse and longitudinal waves behave at each of the following boundaries: Transverse wave at a fixed end. 1800 phase angle change 00 phase angle change 2) Longitudinal wave at a free end. 3) Transverse wave moving to a more rigid medium. Return to day 6
