Decision Making Styles
Authoritarian- leader makes all the decisions and tells the followers what to do Example: Napoleon, Queen Elizabeth, Vince Lombardi

At times this kind of leader is important (Ex: emergencies and armies) but often the leader becomes abusive “My way or the highway”

Democratic- this leader listens to all its members, works for an agreement and then makes final decision. Example: John F. Kennedy

This style is good because followers help make decisions but can take a long time and if followers are not experienced, the decisions may not be effective

Laissez-faire- (French for leave it alone) this leader lets the group make their own decisions Example: Mahatma Ghandi

This style is great for groups that are, self-motivated (think Google), but does not work well when members are inexperienced or do not set timelines and goals well

Social Group Styles Reasons to join a social group:
To get something done (Instrumental Leadership) To be with or make friends, companionship (Expressive Leadership)
