Protection- What Are the Challenges?
Correct information about possibilities Support and assistance in the return process Patience Cultural sensitivity The psychological needs of the victim Individual situation- background and capabilities- help to self help National and local conditions

The Way Forward Interdependence and Partnership – Cooperation and coordination of activities to join forces and avoid duplication Knowledge- Trainings, research on all forms of human trafficking Identification and victim support- More resources and assess the current models Increased prosecution Tackle the demand that induces trafficking in human beings Self-reflection

Thinking about effective TBH strategies for your work
Educate yourself, then others Develop working methods within the embassies Use the Protocol as a Guide/Check list Don’t reinvent the wheel: Look at other countries’ experience and examples Identify Issues that are unique to your country and the country you work in: e.g. Sexual Tourism? What are the priorities and trends for the Region? Do not forget the Victim Centered Approach Think outside the box

Consider: Where does it happen? What kinds of jobs and industries? Who are the victims?

In short Combating trafficking in persons is an endeavor for our entire society Trafficking in persons is a complex phenomena that affects us all, and that requires strategies that involves, not only government, but also civil society, working together Consular officers have a privileged and strategic position to identify victims and intervene on their behalf and to offer them assistance Do not contribute to the demand
