1 Bellringer To the right is an image of an animal cell. How does a
cell compare in size to a molecule, protein, ribosome, etc?

2 Say What?! Name Class Date Predict
Today we are going to be traveling back in time to the discovery of cells. Imagine it is the year There is no electricity, no running water, and no Wal-Mart!! You are a life scientist busy at work in your laboratory. It has always interested you to know what we are made of; so you have created a form of a magnifying glass. You call it a microscope; it is meant to look at really small things in a magnified manner. People don’t really take you too seriously, but you are about to make a huge discovery. One of the first things you look at under your microscope is a slice of cork. When you get it under the scope, you see little boxes stacked on top of each other. They remind you of little rooms, so you call them cells. Your job now is to advertise and explain to the world what cells are and why they are important to us. Remember, it is 1665…not 2013!

4 What’s my test?? Cell Organelle Quiz Wednesday, January 21, 2017
Part I: Matching (11 points) Correctly match cell organelles to their function Part II: Short Answer/Essay What would happen if the mitochondria in the cell quit working or disappeared?

5 EQ’s and I Can’s EQ: What benefits do we have being a Eukaryotic organism? Why is it better to be us than bacteria? What is the life expectancy of a Prokaryote vs. Eukaryote? What are some additional functionalities we have that bacteria do not?

6 EQ’s and I Can’s I Can Identify and explain the function of cell organelles Determine what would happen to a cell if the organelles quit working Construct cell organelles as part of a complete Eukaryotic cell
