Fresno killings a hate crime

A man fatally shot three people in less than two minutes in what police in Fresno, California, are calling a hate crime. The three victims from the shooting rampage Tuesday were white, and apparently chosen at random, police said. The suspect, Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, is black. Muhammad had posted on social media a dislike for white people and government officials. He also yelled "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) when he was arrested Tuesday. Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said, "We do not believe ... that this is a terrorist-related crime. This is solely based on race." The shootings started around 10:45 in the morning. Muhammad fired 16 rounds within 60 to 90 seconds.

In Other News Aaron Hernandez, 27, the former New England Patriots star who was convicted of murder, was found hanged Wednesday morning in the Massachusetts prison where he was serving a life sentence. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window. He also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items. A spokesman for former President George H.W. Bush said the 92-year-old politician was re-admitted to a Houston hospital Friday over what turned out to be pneumonia. His spokesman, Jim McGrath, confirmed the return to the hospital in a statement on Tuesday, adding that Bush was taken to the hospital due to a cough that prevented him from sleeping. The cough turned out to be due to pneumonia, which has been treated and resolved. Egyptian officials unearthed eight mummies, 10 colorful sarcophagi and numerous figurines in 3,500-year-old tombs, the Ministry of Antiquities announced Tuesday.
