2. What are Call Numbers?
A Call Number is like the book’s address in the library – it’s where it lives!
Think of the library as a school bus and the books as students who need to be picked up. If the bus driver doesn’t have any addresses, how will he or she find the students? Discuss this with a partner.
You can think of the library in the same way. What would happen if we put the books just anywhere on the shelves? Discuss.

3. PICTURE BOOKS These are picture books for everyone to check out.
Call numbers begin with E, followed by the 1st three letters of the author’s last name. E

4. FICTION
These are chapter books for grades 3-5. There will be a new section for easy chapter books soon!

These are for students who are beginning to read chapter books
They are on the special book case near the sit spots
They have a gold star sticker on the spine.

6. NONFICTION These books are organized by the Dewey Decimal System.
Call numbers range from 000 to 999, followed by the 1st three letters of the author’s last name.

The call numbers start with B and are followed by the first three letters of the SUBJECTS last name

All Graphic Novels are shelved together, though they are all about different topics
39 Clues books are also shelved together at the end of the Fiction section
