PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports)
We will continue to follow Wyngate RoaRS, our school-wide behavior system. Respect Of All Responsible Safe Classes will be rewarded as a whole with PAWs given by staff members As a school, PAWs will count towards meeting our school-wide monthly goal set by our SGA to earn School Spirit Days As a class, PAWs will count towards our class weekly goal of earning T.G.G.T. (Third Grade Get Together) time on Fridays Students will be rewarded tickets individually for positive behaviors Tickets will count towards the House Cup race. They will also be entered into the weekly raffle! Students can also recognize positive behaviors in each other through “bucket drops,” which were introduced this year by our new guidance counselor, Mrs. King

Clap to show your appreciation. Take turns. Share equipment. Use kind words and play fairly. Use balls away from buildings. Voices are off. Flush toilet. Follow instructions of patrol and bus driver. Be Responsible Carry your supplies carefully. Read a book. Sit silently. Walkers/Car Riders leave promptly. Go directly to bus or line up when dismissed. Recycle or throw out your trash. Clean up table top and floor under the table. Listen and watch. Return equipment to containers. Line up when the bell rings. Talk to aides if you need help. Think 2 2 min or less 2 pumps of soap 2 hands to wash 2 paper towels 2 points in the trash Alert staff if you see a problem. Walk to your bus quickly when called. Be Safe Take stairs one at a time. Sit Wyngate Way. Leave toys and cards at home. Hall basics Eat your own food. Stay seated at your assigned table. Keep your feet on the floor. Follow the rules of the games. Curriculum 2.0 Fifth year of implementation for grade 3 in MCPS
Based on strong research to provide a well-rounded education for students while also developing CRITICAL and CREATIVE thinking skills that are important for success in academics in life. Based on Common Core State Standards for math, reading, and writing. Students will have many opportunities to analyze and collaborate in all subjects. We work in small groups for students to benefit from clarification, practice, and challenge. Groups are flexible based on the needs of each individual student.

Standards based grading system
Standards based report card (not related to traditional grading system.) Provides information about student progress in specific areas of curriculum and how they are performing in relation to grade level expectations. Students will be scored on Measurement Topics that are covered in class. Many Measurement Topics are taught throughout the year, but the headers or objectives will increasingly become more difficult. The goal is to be proficient in each measurement topic. Scores will be as follows: ES exceptional P proficient I in progress N not meeting standards

Homework Policy All students will read 20 minutes or more each evening. A homework calendar will be provided each month. There will be a daily activity required and parents should initial each day to indicate their child has completed the required activity. Students will turn in the calendar at the end of each month, so their teacher can verify they have completed the activities. There will be occasional long-range projects for students to complete. Parents will be notified of these projects in advance.

Homework Instructions
Please read through these instructions for the week. We ask that parents initial the calendar each night and also initial the weekly reading log upon completion. At the end of each month, please only return the initialed calendar and reading log. This information will be sent home as both a hard copy and an electronic copy at the beginning of each month.

Monday and Tuesday Homework
Read 20 minutes Choose a math website from the calendar or any other math website that matches the topics If you do not have regular access to a computer, please have your child complete the alternative activity TUESDAY Select a reflection question from the reading log and answer it on the Home Reading Log. This is in response to whatever your child is reading at home.

Wednesday and Thursday H.W.
Read 20 minutes Practice math facts for addition and subtraction (flashcards, orally, math websites, any math games learned from school/home, etc.) THURSDAY Choose a writing prompt from the monthly Writing Calendar for the corresponding week. Complete a writing prompt in your Homework Journal. Use your best handwriting and correct spelling and punctuation.

Chromebooks Each student will be assigned their own Chromebook
Students will also be given a Google account through MCPS Their use will be consistently integrated with traditional teaching methods across all subjects There will be a balance between the use of chromebooks and written work in the classroom

Locker Guidelines Lockers are used to store school materials ONLY (no toys, electronics, games, etc.). Students are not allowed to decorate their lockers or hang items up in them because they will be used by other students in future years. If it is determined that students are using their locker or another student’s locker inappropriately, then the privilege of using their locker will be revoked for a period of time or the entire year, depending on the severity of the infraction. We want everyone to have use of their locker for the entire year, so please speak with your child about using their locker appropriately

Progress Reports Progress Reports will be sent home weekly.
They will reflect the learning skills on the standards based report card. Some areas will consist of: Completes Tasks Analysis Collaboration Exercises self-control Follows Rules and Procedures Room for comments will be included on each progress report sheet and will be completed as needed.
