Practical Biochemistry 2 BIOCB2301
Islamic University-Gaza Faculty of Science Biochemistry department
2
Course Objectives This course aims to provide the students with an opportunity to develop their qualitative analytical skill. It is expected that, students upon completion of this course, will have a sound knowledge on important protocol, and techniques used widely in biochemistry lab, for example: extraction, isolation, purification, thin-layer chromatography, poly acrylamide gel electrophoresis.
3
Course Objectives Students will get adapted to team work.
At the end of this course students will be familiar with “how” to use some apparatus in biochemistry lab, for example: pH-meter, kjeldahl apparatus, spectrophotometer.
4
Course Topics Lab 1: Active Acidity, pH, and buffer. Carbohydrates
Lab 2: Determination of Reducing & Nonreducing Sugars in Honey. Vitamins Lab 3: Determination of Ascorbic Acid Iodometrically
5
Course Topics Proteins
Lab 4: Determination of Nitrogen & Crude Protein. Lab 5: Biuret Method. Lab 6: Enzyme kinetics of Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP). Lipids Lab 7: Separation of blood serum lipids by thin-layer chromatography. Lab 8: Isolation of Cholesterol From Egg Yolk .
