Psalms 92:1 … It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: We should thank and praise the Lord for his goodness, but also for who He is. 1 Chronicles 16:34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. Thanksgiving is a time when we reflect and feel thankful. We think about what we are thankful for. We enjoy food and family, and mix in a little football. But there is more than that according to God.

Leviticus 7: And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he shall offer unto the LORD If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings. Thanksgiving is a sacrifice, an offering, a giving. 2 Chronicles 33:16 And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel.

Psalms 50:14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
Giving thanks isn’t free. 2 Samuel 24:24 And the king [David] said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. Amos 4:5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD. Must be free. You don’t get anything out of it. Psalms 107:22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. Thanksgiving is a sacrifice.

Nehemiah 11:17 And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. The Israelites had certain men appointed to take care of the thanksgiving. One way thanksgiving is made is in prayer. Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Nehemiah 12:46 For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God. Thanksgiving is made in songs of praise.

Psalms 69:30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
Psalms 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. Psalms 147:7 Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Jonah 2:9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. Not just singing, but blessing and praising through speech. Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. What does “in every thing” mean?
11
2 Corinthians 8:7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. Every good thing of God. In faith, in diligence, in knowledge, in love, give thanks. 2 Corinthians 9:8, And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; Our good works are thanksgiving. The only good works you can do are when they are according to his will, in his name, and done with the fruits of the Spirit within you from your salvation. Now, the Bible doesn’t say this specifically, but it may be fair to say we should give thanks “in all things” as well. If we do assume that…

Philippians 4: I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. In addition to the definition for “in every thing”, “in all things” can mean in all situations. 2 Corinthians 6:4-5 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, 5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; Hebrews 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. He had temptations, distresses, persecutions, loneliness, homelessness. Then you can be faithful “in every thing” – i.e. the things pertaining to God.

Titus 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, No matter what you lack, no matter what you suffer, show yourself as a pattern, an example of a Christian. Likewise, no matter what you currently have, what you currently lack, and what you currently suffer, give thanks.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Give thanks FOR all things. This is a different “all things”. This is FOR all things, not IN all things. “for all things” only occurs 6 times in the Bible. 1 Chronicles 29:14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. Notice the context of OFFERING, GIVING, thanks. “for all things” are things that come of God, that are given to us by God. When you give thanks, you offer back of what God has given you. Breath? Time? Money? His own Son? 2 Corinthians 4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. We give thanks “for ALL things” that come from Him. Fruits of the Spirit: Meekness, Patience, Love, Joy, Peace, Salvation. Give (offer) of those things.

John 6:11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. Thank him for our food. Thank him for supplying our needs. Romans 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. If you eat, give God thanks. Even if you don’t eat, even in hunger, give God thanks. Whether we eat or drink, suffer or reign, give God thanks.

2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
Ephesians 1: Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; Thank the Lord for your church, for fellow Christians. 2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift. We should thank God for His gift, His sacrifice.

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Everything you do should be in His name. Everything you do should be with thanksgiving. Psalms 18:49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name. 1 Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. You know to give thanks through prayer. You should also give thanks by telling of his deeds. Tell of his unspeakable gift that he died to give you. I challenge you to do so.

Leviticus 22:29 And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will. It must be willingly. God loveth a cheerful giver. Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. It may be a sacrifice (a cost) to you to praise God in the midst of many people. Continually. Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Not just one day a year. Give thanks (sacrifice and offer) to the Lord in all states, and for all that he has given you, always.
