Every eligible student is assured entrance into one of the New York City public high schools. Students can rank up to 12 schools/programs on their application. If a student wishes to attend his or her zoned high school, he or she must list the zoned program of that high school as one of the choices on his or her application. All students should return their applications by Friday, November 17, for review. The last day to submit your application is Thursday, December 1st.

9 Selection Methods Admission Methods determine the way students are admitted into high school. The selection criteria for each program is listed in the High School Directory.

10 Educational Option (Ed. Opt.)
Educational Option programs are designed to allow students of different achievement levels entrance to a high school/program. Fifty percent (50%) of the students in each category are chosen by the school administration. Fifty percent (50%) are randomly selected from the pool of students who ranked it as a choice. Ed Opt Option : Petrides 16%- High Reading Level Middle 68%- Middle reading level Bottom 16%- Low reading Level

11 Audition Audition Programs:Laguardia/Wagner Theatre
Audition programs require that a student demonstrate proficiency in the specific performing arts/visual arts area for that program. Audition requirements are listed under the program on each school’s directory page. Please refer to Page 3 of your High School Directory for Audition instructions. Late registration for auditions will not be possible. Audition Programs:Laguardia/Wagner Theatre Many audition programs are in other boroughs, please consider travel time when making these selections. We strongly suggest students travel to these schools on a regular business day, like Election Day, to get a feel for the commute.

12 Screened Screened Programs- Schools rank students using a selection method based on their academic record, standardized test scores and attendance history. Screened Option : Wagner Scholars

13 Unscreened Unscreened Option: Curtis Visual Arts
A computer randomly selects students for acceptance into these programs. Unscreened Option: Curtis Visual Arts

14 Limited Unscreened Limited Unscreened programs give priority to students who, along with their parents, participate in an orientation session or open house. For example: CSI High School & Gaynor McCown Expeditionary Learning School **Priority is given to students who attend an information session. You must remain for the entire length of the session.**

15 Zoned Zoned academic comprehensive programs are identified in relation to a specific geographical area. Students living in that area, if they list the zoned program, are guaranteed admission only to the zoned program within that school. A student living outside of that zoned area may still apply to the zoned program of that school, but he/she will not have priority for admission. Students are not guaranteed admission to any program in their zoned school other than the zoned program.
