2 Objectives: Identify and describe effective classroom management strategies. Distinguish well written rules from ineffective rules. Role play different classroom situations and how to effectively handle them.

Personality Professional Characteristics What qualities does an effective classroom manager have? Think of a teacher you’ve known that has effective management and create a character sketch of that person

4 Is there any room for improvement?
Criteria for rules: Should be positive +Listen to others -No talking out of turn Need to be stated clearly. +Follow the teacher’s instructions -Always use appropriate conduct. Should be few +Class time is for class activities. -Be on time, no leaving without permission, bring your homework, book notebook and pen to class. Need to be reasonable and enforceable Find someone you don’t already know very well. Share your rules with someone else in the class and discuss if they meet this criteria. Is there any room for improvement?

5 How do you determine your consequence?
Should be gradual and reversible. Do not go to extreme consequences, and when possible, allow students to reverse the consequences with good behavior. Should be natural/logical. Follow from the situation or event. Should maintain the dignity of the student. Not singling out students. Should be consistent. Consequences How do you determine your consequence?

Respect is quid pro quo No Disrespectful comments No Electronic Devices in class Demonstrate habits of a responsible learner Speak only English in class Act your age! Always raise your hand before speaking. No fighting, hitting, kicking, touching other students. Late work will not be accepted No drinks in the classroom except bottled water. Students will be asked to throw out any other drinks when they come into the classroom. What is wrong with these rules?
