Feeling Angry Body Signs
What makes me angry? How do you know I’m angry? How do others know I’m angry? Review Angry Body Signs: feel hot, clenched jaw, short rapid breathing, increased heart rate, tense body e.g. shoulders stiff rigid posture shaking difficulty talking properly, unable to listen Others would notice: not smiling, red face, fists or hands on hips with chin forward, tight lips, running fingers through hair, hands jammed in pockets pointing or jabbing, direct stare, "in your face", crossing arms, legs or ankles, quick movements, false or mocking laughter, raised voice speaking more quickly or slowly

The Feeling Angry Strength Bar
Here is a picture of the Feeling Angry Strength Bar. It doesn’t feel so good when we are feeling angry, so we fall into the red zone. Who can tell me how angry someone feels when they are a red 4 on the feeling angry strength bar? A red 4 means they are felling very angry. How about when we feel just “a bit angry”, what number is that on the strength bar? (1) And how about when we feel “pretty angry”? (3). When we are just feeling “angry”, we are in the middle of the red zone, we are number 2.

Discussing each bear discuss: How angry is the bear? (Intensity) How do you know (Body Signs) Draw lines from the bear to the number/colour on the strength bar Can you think of situations when you are feeling this angry?

Very angry angry OK Very calm calm Kate takes Adam’s pencil Adam can’t play Playstation any more Discuss each of the 4 scenarios After each one discuss: 1. How angry does Adam feel? How do we know (Body signs), highlight different intensities of angry depending upon the situation Adam is in 2. How angry would you feel in the same situation? (children could be given post it notes with their name on it and invited to come to board to stick their note on where they would be in the same situation as Adam) Highlight that in the same situation everyone had different intensities (levels) of angry. Feeling Angry Activity
Activity: Give children a piece of paper and ask them to write down a situation where they have felt angry in the past week. Could role play it if like. Then invite the child to stick their paper on the strength bar to show how angry each situation makes them feel. Highlight: different situations makes us feel different intensities of angry and the same situation can make different people feel different strengths of angry.

Feelings like angry Today we have discussed the feeling: angry. There are feelings like angry that you might know of. Brainstorm and generated feelings of different intensities of angry. Write on the board and link it to the strength bar. Eg: cross, furious, mad, wild, grumpy, explosive, bitter, displeased, heated, provoked, annoyed, enraged, irate, irritable, outraged, offended, exacerbated, ferocious, fiery, infuriated

Follow up activity: Students can have their own copy of this and use it during the week. Teachers may like to do it at the end of the day a few times or when a student needs support with an issue.
