1 Embedding Word Tutorial

2 MS Word XP Microsoft Word XP can be purchased separately or in an application packet called MS Office XP. MS Word is a word processing application used to create documents. The purpose of this tutorial is to show how files and sound can be embedded within documents created in Word.

3 Opening Word Click on the Start button, go to programs, Microsoft Office XP, and finally Word.

4 Embedding a PowerPoint File
Go to the Menu Bar at the top of the screen. Click on Insert and then Object…

5 Click on the Create from File tab.
Click on the Browse… button.

6 Select the PowerPoint File you would like to embed by double clicking on the file name.
Click on the Insert button.

7 Click on OK

8 The file will appear as a graphic, however, only the first page of the presentation will be seen.
Double-clicking on the picture will begin the presentation.

9 Embedding Excel Files Go to the Menu Bar at the top of the screen.
Click on Insert and then Object…

10 Click on the Create from File tab.
Click on the Browse… button.

11 Select the Excel File you would like to embed by double clicking on the file name.
Click on the Insert button.

12 Click on OK

13 The entire Excel spreadsheet will appear on the document.
Double-clicking on the spreadsheet will open a modified version of Excel on the Word document.

14 Embedding an Access File
Go to the Menu Bar at the top of the screen. Click on Insert and then Object…

15 Click on the Create from File tab.
Click on the Browse… button.

16 Select the Access File you would like to embed by double clicking on the file name.
Click on the Insert button.

17 Click on OK

18 The entire Access File will appear as an icon on the document.

19 Double-clicking the icon will bring up a screen advising that you will now be opening the Access program and the database. Click Yes and the database will open.

20 Embedding Sound Bites Go to the Menu Bar at the top of the screen.
Click on Insert and then Object…

21 Click on the Create New tab.
Scroll down until you see Wave Sound. Click on it once. Click once on OK.

22 You need a microphone attached to your computer in order to complete this task.
A small screen called Sound Object in (name of document) will appear. Click on the red circle to begin your recording.

23 Click on the black square to stop the recording.

24 Click on the black arrow to listen to your recording.

25 Click on the small x in the upper right hand corner of the small screen to finish the task.

26 The sound bite will appear as a small icon on your document.
Double-clicking the icon will play back the recording.

27 Adding Graphics Click on Insert, Picture, and Clip Art...

28 Insert Clip Art will appear on the right side of the screen.
Type in a keyword for the graphic you want to insert. Click on Search.

29 Results will show a number of graphics to choose from.
Pick the graphic you desire and click on the picture.

30 The graphic will appear on the document.
You can make the picture larger or smaller by clicking any corner and pulling the picture until it is the desired size.
