12 Trans-Eurasia Land Transport - Potential
China Trans-Eurasia Land Transport - Potential Available infrastructure - huge potential via Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR) Nowadays mostly is used to a limited extent for the purpose of intercontinental transportation Four of 35 Asian countries dominate the rail-freight scene: China, Russia, India, and Kazakhstan account for 97,5% of tone/km Transported volumes via TSR increased by annual average of 50% since 1999 to ca. 0,5 MIO TEU: ca. 0,4 MIO TEU (Russia / China trade) Ca. 0,1 MIO TEU (transit goods Europe / China) The review of world merchandise trade by leading exporters and importers reconfirms the importance of price developments and the outstanding trade performance of China and India.

13 China Problems & Challenges Poor international cooperation in transport issues “Flexible” (not stable) tariff system for transit goods in Russia and Kazakhstan Lack of transparency in transports tariff policy “Flexible” (long) border procedure time between: China – Kazakhstan Russia / Belarus – Poland  Unpredictable transit times Security and quality The review of world merchandise trade by leading exporters and importers reconfirms the importance of price developments and the outstanding trade performance of China and India.

14 Doing Business in Russia
In spite of “Customs Union” btw. RU and KZ (created in 2010) and highly prioritized national strategies in KZ and RU for Logistics Management, the current competence level and educational realities there do not meet the real demand of the EU partners (cf. EWTC-2). There is a disastrous unbalanced approach in RU, KZ; huge investments nowadays in hard-infrastructure (roads, railways, terminals) vs. very low educational level in Logistics. It is not the lack of financial resources or political will in KZ or RU, but the lack of specialists, deficits Logistics competences that prevent partner countries from efficient implementation of their strategic transport policies; it keeps also the EU companies from sustainable growth in this sector. In response to identified challenges and to the great improvement demand of Logistics competences in KZ and RU, the project aims at implementation of MSc Programme “Green Logistics Management” to be implemented in partner Universities by Sept 2017.
