1 September 6, 2017 Place bags and phones on the side of room by window.
Materials: Journal Supply box Chromebook Pick up notes at the front of the room Place bags and phones on the side of room by window.

2 Carbohydrates

3 Function Carbohydrates can be broken down to provide a useable source of energy for cells.

4 Carbohydrates are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Carbohydrates will have a 5 or 6 sided ring shape. Trace the ring in red. Circle 1 of each element in green.

5 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages 157-163
The structure of carbohydrates Monosaccharides are the monomer of a carbohydrate. Examples of monosaccharides are glucose and fructose Glucose – made by plants during photosynthesis 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages

6 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages 157-163
The structure of carbohydrates A disaccharide is 2 monosaccharides bonded together Example: sucrose (table sugar) A polysaccharide is many monosaccharides bond together Example: cellulose, starch, and glycogen 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages

7 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages 157-163
Examples of Carbohydrates Cellulose (insoluble fiber) is a polysaccharide used to form cell walls in plants. 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages

8 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages 157-163
Examples of Carbohydrates Glycogen is a polysaccharide made and stored in animals for energy. 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages

9 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages 157-163
Examples of Carbohydrates Starch is used as energy storage by plant cells. (animals can also break this down and use it for energy) 6.3 Section Summary 6.3 – pages
