Shakespeare in movies By Rylie ringer and Katie faccone

introduction Shakespeare’s plays inspire the plots of many modern novels and films.

Summary From the late 1590’s, film makers have been recreating and basing many modern films on the events of Shakespeare’s plays Over the years, there have been hundreds of remakes of plays, with many famous actors and actresses Some of the most well-known include She’s the Man, 10 Things I hate about you, and The Lion King.

Quote from proquest According to proquest.com, when talking about 10 Things I hate about you, it states that if “these details don't sound like the artist formerly known as William Shakespeare, remember the bawdy high-jinks and vulgar language he sprinkled through his plays to please the groundlings milling in the pit of the Globe Theatre.”

Quote significance Like screenwriters working in Hollywood today, Shakespeare wrote pop culture aimed at a mass- market audience. Same themes enjoyed today as in Shakespearian times. Such themes included love, humor, and deceit.

Quoting academia.edu Academia.edu mentions that “this ‘emotional excitement’ has intrigued writers ever since, although William Shakespeare first began making appearances in novels in earnest in the first half of the nineteenth century, some two hundred years after his death. When we look at these early novels, similar themes and an over-riding tone emerge; namely, a general romanticizing of Shakespeare’s life, particularly his earlier rural life, with references to ‘little Will Shakespeare’ and his ‘ardent and poetic soul’”.

Quote significance Recreations started appearing about 200 years after Shakespeare’s death Many romanticized his own life, specifically the middle and end of his life Always portrayed his artistic and poetic qualities

Quote from Shakespeare-online.com
Finally, shakespeare-online.com says “Shakespeare influenced every generation of writers since his death and he continues to have an enormous impact on contemporary plays, movies, and poems. The Romantic poet John Keats ( ) was so influenced by Shakespeare that he kept a bust of the Bard beside him while he wrote, hoping that Shakespeare would spark his creativity.”

Quote significance Many writers looked up to Shakespeare practically as an idol Modeled their works after him Some even slept with his writing in order to spark creativity
