Studied surgery until 1814, when after a fight with his master, left to study literature
Grandmother dies, brother Tom is left in his care. Tom has tuberculosis.
Tom dies in John moves.
Falls in love with next door neighbor’s daughter, Fanny. Courts Fanny through letters.
John learns he has tuberculosis. He cannot marry Fanny.

4. Facts of Life
Disease worsens. Doctors advise him to move away from London.
Heads to Rome.
Publishing numerous works. Critics are not nice in their reviews.
Shelley and Byron defend Keats’ work. Both blame Keats death on a bad review.

Ode: an exalted, complex lyric that develops a serious and dignified theme.
Greatly inspired by Edmund Spenser.
Drew from life experiences, especially the death of his brother, critical reviews of his first poem, and his love with Fanny.
Inspired poems about his life by Shelley, Wallace, Yeats, and Byron.
