Vs – Jesus again predicts His betrayal and crucifixion
Vs – James and John’s mother ask Jesus if they can sit on His right and left
Vs – The others hear about it and are upset
Jesus reminds His disciples that to serve is greater than to be served

4. What Does It Mean to Serve?
Definition: To be an attendant; wait upon; minister
Derived from the Greek word diakanos
Literally translated as kicking up dust when on the move
Where we get our word for deacon
Jesus is telling His disciples that His expectation for them is that they be willing to serve others

Matthew 20:28 – He served by giving His life as a ransom for others
John 15:13 – Jesus tells us that this is greatest act of love
John 10:17-18 – Jesus does this willingly
Matthew 20:25-26 – He did not demand to be served

But the Son of God teaches His disciples a very important lesson on service to others

We must look out for each other, not just ourselves

If we see someone in sin, then we will do everything we can to pull them back

Jude – We do everything we can to save each other

Each person is to help each other with loads

If we want to be pleasing and acceptable to God, then we must be servants
How can we claim to be servants of God if we can’t serve each other?
