About the project The idea of the project „Hopscotch. In search of vintage games” is to draw the youth away from sitting in front of the computer and to discern that not only the virtual world is beautiful. In the first year of the enterprise, together with the school from Estonia we carried out a survey among those connected with the knowledge of vintage games (e.g. kapsle, palant). We got the biggest amount of information from elderly people, which is of great importance since one of the aims of the project is building up the intergeneration bonds. During the first visit to Poland, out of a huge database, we chose some games from both countries. All the activities we have undertaken are based on the values of friendship, respect, goodness, sincerity, love, trust and tolerance. The very project is propagated in the form of brochures, multimedia presentations in other schools in the town and in the local environment. The Partner Project Comenius enables the fulfilment of the cognitive aims assumed by the schools; it enables the students to develop the curiosity of the world, get to know other cultures, tolerance and cooperative skills in different circumstances. It teaches the existence in the contemporary world and international cooperation and allows the students to improve their language skills. Both the schools have great experience in cooperation and implementing both projects and other actions on the national and international stage. During a journey, this game is irreplaceable.
Ships – a traditional game for two people (played usually on a sheet of paper). The aim of the game is to sink the opponent’s invisible fleet before they sink ours. Actually, we have not managed to find any information about the origins of this game. The only thing that came up in our conversations or surveys – a very nice game. A lot of people played the paper version of this game (which follows) – nowadays, they try the computer version. Bearing in mind greater possibilities of getting a piece of paper and pens, we definitely recommend you our way. . During a journey, this game is irreplaceable. Number of participants – two players – no age limits Venue – every place is good, the corridor during a school break, a park, a trip, two notebooks during a social meeting Accessories – two sheets of paper on which we draw two tables for each player. The number of vertical and horizontal grids depends solely on the amount of time the players have. The more grids the longer the game. Of course something to write with.

Course of the game: before starting the game the players draw lots to establish the order. We have assumed that Player no 1 has started the game. In their three shots: (A6, G8, D14) they had misses so they marked only circles. In the second round (B1, B2, A2) they shot B2 and got the information that the ship got shot but did not sink. Only the third round brought full success – the whole frigate got sunken. According to the assumptions, the ships cannot touch each other so Player no 1, as help in future shots, circled the fields of direct touch with the ship as misses (these fields are marked pink).

Shot – giving the bearing for a specific grid, e.g. B3. Each of the players writes down their own score. To make further shots easier, they marked all the adjacent fields as misses, i.e. the places where there cannot be any opponent’s ships (also marked pink). The above method helps a lot in planning further actions or hits.
