1 Conscience = a: the sense or consciousness of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one's own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good b: a faculty, power, or principle enjoining good acts c: the part of the superego in psychoanalysis that transmits commands and admonitions to the ego -- Webster

2 Conscience = “the awareness of good and bad, right and wrong regarding morality.”
-- Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance

3 Conscience = “The inner parts of man’s psyche; the MIND to which REASON and UNDERSTANDING are affiliated and nourished, and from which our character derives its abilities to be righteous or wicked in God’s sight.

4 “Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.”

5 Jesus influenced the conscience of others
John 8: 1 – 11 The challenge -- “He that is without sin among you,let him first cast a stone at her.” Were these men guilty of adultery? Romans 2:22 -- Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? The result -- “And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last.”

6 Jesus’ word is designed to effect the conscience
Hebrews 4: 12 – For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

7 Jesus’ word is designed to effect the conscience
2. Colossians 3:16 – Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

8 Paul’s conscience was so influenced
Acts 23:1 -- And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. Acts 24: And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men. Romans 9: I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. 2 Timothy 1:3 -- I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day.

9 Some have an erring conscience
Of these, we must TEACH rather than criticize 1 Corinthians 8: 1 – 12 1 Timothy 4: 1 – 9 Some others simply REFUSE to learn! Titus 1: 15 – 16 1 Timothy 1: 5 – 7 1 Timothy 1:

10 There is a NECESSITY of knowing the TRUTH and OBEYING the TRUTH
1 Timothy 3: 8 – 9 -- Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 2 Corinthians 1:12 -- For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you- ward.

11 There is a NECESSITY of knowing the TRUTH and OBEYING the TRUTH
2 Corinthians 3: 12 – 18 2 Corinthians 4: 1- 6 Hebrews 13:18 -- Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

12 How is this conscience received?
Hebrews 9: 6 – 14 Hebrews 10: 19 – 22 1 Peter 3:
