Hood, 51, was convicted of the shooting death of Marshall Morgan Jr., an Illinois Institute of Technology basketball standout, and had been serving a 50-year prison sentence. He has long maintained his innocence and said Chicago police should have investigated Morgan's father in the killing.

What advice do you have for young people of color who are growing up in America and the challenges they may face in our society? Education is very important. That is something no one can take away and we have to remember to give back when we make it. We don’t do that. Racism is still a major factor, In the younger generation it is not as bad, Millennials are more accepting of race and color. Racism is a learned behavior. You teach people how to treat you.
