2 Planned Outcomes Following this session the teacher will:
Be aware of some of the literacy support materials that can be produced with “Hot Potatoes” Be able to produce an online crossword using “Hot Potatoes”. Outline some of the applications of this software in their classroom. Be aware of the functionality of the other features of “Hot Potatoes” Make links with this application to other open ended software applications such as Inspiration to support student learning in their program.

5 Stage 1 - Entering your data
Open the “Hot Potatoes” program and select the JCross option.

6 You can work with a “manual” grid if you wish ……
You can work with a “manual” grid if you wish …….but to make life easier work with the automatic grid maker.

7 Enter each word on a separate lines …… the clues are entered later on.

8 When you have finished entering your words – select the “Make the grid” button.

9 The program assembles the crossword grid for you.

10 Select the “Add Clues” button
Add the clues. There is no restriction on the size of the clues.

11 Add your title – You have completed Stage 1

12 Stage 2 – Adjusting the Configuration
Select “Configure Output” from the Options menu.

13 Enter the Title and instructions you wish to have on your puzzle webpage”
Work your way across the rest of the tabs.

14 Stage 3 – Create your web pages
Select the Export to Web page button

15 You will be prompted to save your file – give it a name which will allow you to identify it later.
View the exercise in your browser (Internet Explorer) to check out what a great job you have done!
