Looking at Leaves

Leaf Parts of leave you can see : 1. blade and petiole

Stomata Guard cells take water in by diffusion
When swollen with water the pulls apart the stoma and opens it

Stoma When the guard cells lose water they move back together closing the stoma to prevent water loss. Stoma and Guard cells help leaves handle water.

Plant roots Plants get minerals and water from the soil through their roots Veins called xylem carry water and mineral from the roots to the leaves. Phloem carry food from leaves to rest of plant.

Vascular system Vascular Tissues: Xylem tissue transports water and dissolved minerals to the leaves, and phloem tissue conducts food from the leaves to all parts of the plant.

Transpiration Process by which water vapor can escape from inside the leaf

Mesophyll - photosynthesis
