The last man on earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock at the door.

I walked to the curb wondering what idiot drives his ice cream truck down the street at three in the morning with the music blaring. Just as I noticed there was nobody behind the wheel of the parked vehicle, I heard my front door slam shut, and my children begin to scream.

I begin tucking him into bed, and he tells me, “Daddy check for monsters under my bed.” I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, “Daddy there’s somebody on my bed.”

Directions Work with one other person to write at least 10 examples of school appropriate 2 sentence horror stories. Make sure that you are not writing run-ons. Think about Brushstrokes! With another pair, decide which is the best story that both pairs wrote. Use markers and neatly write your selected story on a piece of construction paper. Put your names and period on the BACK of the paper. We will hang these in the hall, and next week, I will have students vote on which one they feel is the best.
