Lesson 4: Pressure #2 - Media
Sexting According to the Texas Attorney General’s Office, sexting is used to describe sending or receiving sexually explicit images via mobile telephones. When sexting involves images of minors it can become an issue for law enforcement, because sending or receiving sexually explicit images of persons under the age of 17 can constitute the promotion of child pornography. Minors intentionally and knowingly promoting or possessing text messages that contain explicit images of those 17 years old or younger will not be charged with a felony and will not require that they register as sex offenders in the state, HOWEVER: First-time violators who send or possess these illicit messages face a class C misdemeanor: Class C misdemeanors in Texas are punishable by a fine of up to $500. There is no jail time for a class C misdemeanor. Subsequent violations could be upgraded to a class B misdemeanor. The upgraded charge is also available for defendants who promote these explicit images with intent to harass, annoy, alarm, abuse, torment, embarrass, or offend another: Under Texas's laws, a class B misdemeanor is punishable by: up to 180 days in jail a fine of up to $2,000, or both. Minors who have two or more sexting promotion or possession convictions could face a class A misdemeanor for a third offense: In Texas, class A misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $4,000, or both jail time and a fine. Lesson 4: Pressure #2 - Media
Turn Down a Request for a Sext…without losing the relationship…. If you feel you are not able to say no and leave it at that, consider blaming others for forcing you to turn down such opportunities. You can say your parents check your phone or social media accounts, that you’ve seen the situation turn bad for others or that you simply have more respect for yourself than to let others have such control over yourself. Whatever you chose to say, say it with conviction and don’t feel you have to explain yourself to others. Saying no is the right choice. P.S. Don’t fall for “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.”

Lesson #7 Learning How to Say No
Time to Watch Video Time to Talk What words or “lines” have you heard people use to influence someone to have sex? What would you say if you were on the receiving end of one of these lines? Why is it hard to say “no” to someone you care about? Time to Share As a teenager, were you ever pressured to do something you didn't want to do? What helped you stand up for your beliefs against the pressure? What advice would you give me to help me stand up for my own values?
