The drogue chute can be let out many miles generation power all the way.

Transition of drogue chute to low drag configuration .
Direction of ocean current Head of chute The important part of the design is the head of the drogue chute where the central rope is brought up toward the ship wrt the outer part of the chute. This flexible chute would have to ensure the ropes do not get tangled during transitions. Also the drag of the collapsed chute is not as stream lined as the solid chute – shown next.

Transition of solid drogue chute to low drag configuration .
Direction of ocean current This chute is a solid round disk and is flipped on to its side to present low drag. This solid chute would also have to ensure the ropes do not get tangled during transitions but it’s drag would be less than the flexible chute. Two main tow ropes would be needed from the ship to the head of the chute (rope A and rope B) Rope A is connected to many smaller ropes attached to one side of the disk, rope B is connected to many smaller ropes on other side of the disk. Controlled from the ship; when rope B is allowed to go slack the disk presents an edge to the ocean current. Thus when neither rope A or B are allowed to go slack the disk presents its large surface area to the ocean current. Neither rope A or B are allowed to go slack the disk presents its large surface area to the ocean current. Head of chute Rope B is allowed to go slack the disk presents an edge to the ocean current

One improvement is one in which many chutes are fixed to a rotational line the parachutes would be pushed by the current, and then on their return to the ship be naturally closed to a aqua-dynamic shape on their way back, forming a loop similar to a large horizontal waterwheel.
