Introduction Results Our findings showed a continued predilection of right sided diverticulitis. statistical analysis of diverticulitis trend by location using a regression model resulted in a P value of 0.85. The cumulative average severity of diverticulitis overtime as judged using the Buckley classification system also resulted in a P value >0.05 suggesting no significant increase/ decrease in severity of Diverticulitis over the period of the study. [fig. 2] The rate of hospitalization for diverticulitis has increased dramatically in the United States over the last 20 years as cited by various journal publications [1] [2]. It is known that Western countries have a predilection for left-colon diverticulosis, contrary to the Asian population with higher incidence of right-colon diverticulosis [3]. It remains unclear how exactly the incidence of diverticulitis has changed by location overtime, and if the increase in diverticulitis could be secondary to an increase in the disease in the right colon. Our objective is to determine the trend, increase or decrease of diverticulitis in the different colon segments overtime as judged by CT abdomen (CTabd) as this could likely guide therapy/interventions. Diverticulitis Trend Material & Methods Images Figure 2 Figure 1 We retrospectively studied consecutive patients discharged with a principal diagnosis of acute diverticulitis between 1995 and 2010 at a large hospital in the United States. The population was narrowed to the first admission per patient and to only those who had a CTabd done during their stay. In total 843 patient were included in the study. A careful distinction of the disease location was recorded on each case, and the trend of the location compared over 15 years. Microsoft excel statistical analysis tool was used for regression analysis. Buckley Severity Trend References Regenbogen SE, Hardiman KM, Hendren S, Morris AM.
