Resistance
2
Resistors purposely impede the flow of electrical current within a circuit.
Resistance (R)- measurement on how much current is obstructed within a circuit. Resistance can be determined for an entire circuit, part of a circuit, or just a single element. Measured in ohms (Ω omega) All elements have some type of resistance
3
Resistors Used in circuits to control the current
Prevent sensitive devices from being ruined by being exposed to too much current Different colored bands on resistors symbolize the amount of resistance provided. 1st 2-3 bands represent digits that make up value of resistance Next band represents factors of 10 the previous value should be multiplied by Last band represents how much the measurement resistance of the resistor could vary from indicated value This type of resistor represented by zigzag line on circuit diagram

Resistors can be used to produce heat (toasters)
Toaster wires with high resistance cause current to struggle to travel through wires, causing high temps Resistors used in light bulbs Current slows down as it passes through the highly resistive tungsten wire inside bulb and is converted into light energy In some circuit diagrams, light bulbs are represented by the symbol for the resistor with a circle around it
