1 SIR Safety Information Registration Introduction for course authors Administrative Information Services HR Information Systems GS-AIS-HR

2 What is SIR? A general framework to
Make e-learning content available on the Internet To assess end users’ knowledge To register end users’ courses in other CERN systems Monitor courses activity and validity Check one person’s situation and activity Initially targeted at “safety oriented” content Multiple languages supported (latin characters) In production since September 2005 90’000 courses passed so far GS-AIS-HR

3 Who does what in SIR? Admins (AIS): provide technical support
Authors: create, define and test courses/tests Testers: test the not yet published courses/tests End users: take the published courses/tests AIS is NOT responsible for the course/test content All tools are available to authors to modify it! GS-AIS-HR

4 What changes in SIR for authors
Courses status is shown in green/grey bullet Edit/Admin buttons appear on top Status/Edit buttons appear on course page GS-AIS-HR

5 Structure of a course Strict sequence of pages Course registered
LHC Machine (Level 4) Module 1 Module 2 Module 3 Access conditions Cryogenic Safety Electrical Safety Page 1 Page 1 Page 1 Strict sequence of pages Page 2 Page 2 Page 2 Page n Page o Page p Course registered in OHR Test Test Test GS-AIS-HR

6 Authoring course content
Have at least one active module per course It is advised to have limited validity (in months) Modules/Pages order can be forced Pages can be stored on any web server but we have one for you: All content inside page under HTTPS! Absolutely NO link from within pages Content must be compatible with any browser otherwise announce it clearly in course introduction GS-AIS-HR

7 Structure of a test Test Question 1 Question 2 Question 3 Answer 1
LHC Access conditions test Question 1 Question 2 Question 3 Do I have to register with the biometry service? Answer 1 Answer 2 Answer 3 Which safety training course shall I follow to access LHC tunnel? My supervisor or LHC tunnel responsible will always approve my access right Answer 1 Answer 1 Yes Radioprotection Yes Answer 2 Answer 2 No Working at heights No None GS-AIS-HR

8 Authoring test content
It is advised to have more questions than asked e.g. 20 questions but only 5 asked Questions / Answers order can be forced There can be more than one valid answer but there should be at least one Have at least one active question per test Have at least one active answer per question Do not overwrite existing questions/answers unless it is to correct a typo, instead: - inactivate the question/answer - create a new one to replace the old one GS-AIS-HR

9 How to add/remove authors/testers?
Access Search for egroups beginning with “sir-” and that you own or manage Select the “sir-<course>-authors” or “sir-<course>-testers” egroup Click on “Members” tab No need to be in “tester” group if person is already in the “author” group Only members of the “sir-<course>-authors-admin” egroup can edit the egroup members 1 day delay is necessary to see changes in SIR! GS-AIS-HR

10 Once in production Use the admin tools available GS-AIS-HR

11 Some hints Test, test, test and test! - On various OS / browsers - From outside CERN network Do not publish not tested content Provide at least French and English versions Do not delete past content, instead invalidate it Most back office fields have online help, click on the label! GS-AIS-HR

12 Getting support Check your course/test content in admin
Invalid or incoherent content is often clearly identified Check end users situation in admin Then only send mail to GS-AIS-HR
