Managing Counter-Compliant Usage Data in Ex Libris Alma
Summer Durrant VIVA Collections Forum May 19, 2017

Overview Prior to Alma, the UMW Libraries did not have an ERM system We collected usage statistics manually by downloading reports from each vendor administrative portal. This was a time-consuming process and making effective use of our data was difficult This presentation describes our implementation of using Alma to collect and report COUNTER-compliant usage data

COUNTER Reports Supported in Alma
Report Type COUNTER Release Manual Upload SUSHI Harvest BR1 R4 Y BR2 BR3 Planned BR4 BR5 CR1 DB1 R3/R4 DB2 JR1 JR1 GOA JR1a JR2 JR5 MR1 PR1 Source: Ex Libris Alma documentation:

Implementation We created vendor records for each vendor we wanted to collect usage statistics since this is required In the vendor record, we entered the username & password for the vendor’s administrative portal, as well as information about what usage statistics are available To stay organized, we also noted which COUNTER reports are available and how they are harvested (i.e., manual upload or SUSHI).

Setup SUSHI Accounts

Manually Upload Files The SUSHI harvest job imports the last 12 months of data. We decided to manually upload historical data for the past 5 years. This functionally can also be used for vendors that do not support SUSHI.

Review Missing Data

Create Reports Data is migrated to Alma Analytics, a reporting system that can be used to create reports, widgets, and dashboards
