Subjects and Predicates
Review: A complete sentence has two parts: A subject A predicate The subject tells us WHO or WHAT the sentence is about. REMEMBER? The predicate tells us what the subject does AND has a verb

Action Verbs Being able to identify subjects and verbs can help YOU with your writing! An action verb is a word that shows action in the PREDICATE part of a sentence. The action verb tells us what the subject of the sentence does.

Example Time! 1. Claudia stirs the soup. 2. Blake chops the carrots.
What is the subject? Underline it What is the predicate? Circle it. What is the action verb? Draw a box around it 2. Blake chops the carrots. Subject? Predicate? Action verb?

More Examples Ed watches the chef. He likes TV cooking shows.
The food smells good. Ed mixes the food in the bowl. Everyone eats the meal. Dad shops for food with Ed.
