2 Subject Names the person, place, or thing the sentence is about.

3 Predicate Tells what the subject is or is doing

4 Simple Subject The noun or the pronoun about which something is said.
Who or what is the sentence about?

5 Simple Subject A new ring grows around the sequoia’s trunk every year.

6 Simple Predicate Is the verb or verb phrase
A verb phrase is two or more verbs that work together Ex. He has finished cleaning the garage.

7 Simple Predicate This bark grows as thick as four feet!

8 Simple Predicate Ron and Linda will bring the ice chest and the umbrella.

9 Complete Subject Consists of the simple subject and all the words that describe it.

10 Complete Subject The small, shaggy dog barked loudly.

11 Complete Predicate Includes all words that are attached to the verb or the action. A verb or verb phrase plus all the words that give more information about it.

12 Complete Predicate The boy carried his books slowly down the street.

13 Compound Subject Two or more subjects joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, nor, yet) form a compound subject.

14 Compound Subject The dog and its owner walked through the park.

15 Compound Predicate Two or more predicates joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, nor, yet) form a compound predicate.

16 Compound Predicate He stopped and waited for his friends.
