My is I will be available 30 minutes after school ends to answer any questions you may have You can also reach out to Mr. MacPhee, who can pass on any questions or concerns you might have to me 1 1 1

I have zero tolerance for any racial, religious, ethnic, or gender/sexuality based slurs or negative comments We are both a class and a community; achieving that is impossible if we are using those words in this classroom Ultimately, a climate of respect is what we should strive for

3 And now a little about you!
Take a piece of paper, and fold it so it can stand up Write your name on it in large letters, and draw an ‘artifact’ This ‘artifact’ can be anything important to you or representing something about you, like an instrument, food, sports gear etc. After everyone is finished, we will go around and everyone will get the chance to explain their artifact Please keep them on your desk for the first several classes that I teach; it will help me learn everyone’s name 3 3 3

Think about where you live right now; why do you live there? What makes it a good (or bad?) place to live? How do you and your family/friends adapt to life there? Think about your home, your neighbourhood, and Vancouver in general, and write down your thoughts on the first section of the worksheet With a partner, discuss and compare your what you wrote down in the first section; what things did you have in common? What did you have that was different? 4 4 4

All people need some form of food, companionship, and shelter/housing But how people achieve can vary greatly depending on where they live How might someone who lives in a desert live differently from you based on the reasons you wrote down? 5 5

Climate is one of the main factors that determine how people live. What are some ways that a region’s climate can affect how the people who live there? An Inuit igloo in the Arctic Pueblan Housing in Arizona 6 6

Geographical location is another strong factor that determines how people live What are some ways that your location affects how you live? Think both in general and from your own experience. How far you live from the coast, from sources of food, whether you live in a mountainous or flat region all can have effects on how people live

8 To your stations! Based on the First People culture you have drawn, move to that culture’s station. Looking at the evidence at each station, write down on your worksheets how you think each culture lived and/or how each culture adapted to the region in which they lived Remember to consider aspects like climate, region, physical location Please be careful with the sheets; they will be used by the next class 8 8

9 Jigsaw time! Based on the First People culture you have drawn, move to that culture’s station. Looking at the evidence at each station, write down on your worksheets how you think each culture lived and/or how each culture adapted to the region in which they lived Remember to consider aspects like climate, region, physical location Please be careful with the sheets; they will be used by the next class

10 Homework for next class
Complete the 3 – 2 – 1 worksheet for Friday’s class 3 things you learned, two interesting thoughts, one question you’re unsure of It will be collected at the start of next the class 10
