2 REFERENDUM A referendum is a process to stay a law recently enacted by the general assembly until the law itself can be submitted to the voters for approval or rejection at a general election. Total signatures = 6% of last gubernatorial 44 of 88 counties Signers are registered voters

3 Some Matters not subject to referendum are:
Laws providing for tax levies Emergency laws necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health or safety

4 RECALLS (in Ohio) Elected officials of counties, cities, towns, townships and villages Signatures required must equal at least 15 percent of the total votes cast at the most recent municipal election Does not apply to school board members No recall for state and federal level officials

5 Initiated Statutes and Initiated Constitutional Amendments
INTIATIVES A procedure by which voters can propose an issue to be decided by the legislature or by the people in a referendum. IN OHIO: Initiated Statutes and Initiated Constitutional Amendments

6 Like Referendums and Recalls, certain numbers of signatures based on percentages of the vote in the last election are required.
