Building a Listening Organization
PMI-NEW presents.. Building a Listening Organization
2
Are you Listening? Listening is not an automatic response to an individual who is sending a verbal message. The ability to receive the message and understand all that the speaker intends to communicate takes active participation on the part of the listener. Because it is the method by which we receive the majority of our information, it is vital that this mode be as efficient as possible. Like any skill, it can be improved through better technique and consistent practice.

T = Team building: You can’t make a centipede by gluing a bunch of ants together. E = Empowerment: “Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand.” Brenda Ueland N = Negotiation “If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” George Bernard Shaw

Are Your Listening? U = Understanding:
