2. Student Planner Brought home daily Please review and initial.
All homework for the week is written in agendas at the beginning of each week.
Because we do not check each planner daily, please write notes separately for me to see.

3. Monday Folders Include: - Student work - Behavior sheet
- Other items (ex: field trip forms)
On Tuesday, the folder is returned with SIGNED behavior sheet.
{Progress reports will be sent home at the halfway mark.}

4. Homework
Students are held accountable for their homework through the use of Take a Ticket clipboard and the work/study habits section of the report card.
Missing 0-3 assignments = can contribute to an Satisfactory rating on the report card
Missing 4-6 assignments = Needs Improvement
Missing 7 or more assignments = Unsatisfactory (This rating will take a student off of honor roll.)

5. Classroom Management REWARDS! Tickets/Stickers (Weekly)
Students sign up for class jobs in the beginning of the week. (Paid Friday: 2 Tickets/Stickers)

6. 5th Grade Testing This Year
IOWA Assessment: 9/16-9/21
End of Grade Assessment (Milestone): 4/19- 4/25

7. Language Arts Grades
County assigned weights for 5th Grade Language Arts:
30% (word work/grammar)
70% (writing)

8. Vocabulary Words
Each Monday students will receive their vocabulary words for the week.
Vocabulary tests will be on Friday.
(5th grade standard requires students to spell grade level appropriate words, consulting references as needed. We will be assessing spelling through writing assignments and content related tests.)

9. Synergy Please check Synergy for grades on a weekly basis.
Test Corrections:
Math and Reading test partial credit corrections for any grades from 0-70% (Deadlines will be discussed with student.)
*Corrections for grade changes are not given for classwork or quizzes.

10. Snacks
Please send your child to school with a healthy nut-free snack each day. Snack time is 9:50. Lunch is at 12:09.
You may also send your child to school with bottled water. We have a water fountain in the classroom.
Snacks should be a single serving size.

11. Birthdays
You may send or bring in a birthday treat if you wish. The treat will be served after lunch.
Please make it simple and easy to serve. (Pre-cut or have individual servings for the entire class.)
Ex: Cupcakes
Birthday party invitations should be distributed outside of school.
Nut-Free.

12. Bus Pass
Hand written notes for your child to ride home on the bus with another student are no longer permissible. There is a form that must be filled out.
The student bus change form can be found either on the school website or in the front office.

13. Doctor’s Appointment/Absence
When your child is absent, please send in an absence excuse upon his/her return.
If your child is going to be absent for several days, we will try our best to work with you and provide some work for them to complete.
Make-up work is required to be completed upon return.

14. Tardies
Please have your child to school by 7:50. It would be even better if they could arrive by 7:20. We complete our morning work during this time.
It is very beneficial for your child to arrive early. This enables your child to get unpacked and settled for the day which is very important at this age.
There are a few things that need to be taken care of in the morning, and it helps when students have time.

15. Conferences Please send us a note or an email to request a conference.
Conferences may be held in person or by phone.
Conference appointment times and/or dates will be discussed upon request.
Conference week will be in October

16. Field Trips We are currently considering:
Theater Performance (Symphony) on Oct. 26th
High Touch-High Tech-Hands on Science Experiments
Author Visits & Guest Speakers
We will have one major field trip to Chattanooga on Monday, May 8th!  (In Planning Stage.)

17. Ellis Island Simulation
5th Grade Program
Nov. 14nd 6:00pm (parents).
This will be a Go West musical!
Ellis Island Simulation
Dec. 1st (at school during the school day)
A chance for students to experience firsthand what immigrants to America went through and felt.
Parent Volunteers are Needed and Appreciated.

Bullying is unfair and one-sided. It happens when someone keeps hurting, frightening, threatening, or leaving someone out on purpose.
Bullying is:
Intentional and purposeful, not an accident
A pattern of behavior over time, not just a one time incident
An imbalance of power or strength
A feeling of injury or discomfort by the person being bullied
