1 Reproductive Education
Human Sexual Anatomy and Functions

2 Anatomy is the branch of science that studies the bodily structures of humans, animals and other organisms. Function is an activity that a thing or person does, or its purpose.

3 Male Reproductive System
The male sex glands are the testes, or testicles where sperm are produced when the boy reaches puberty. The scrotum is the sac that holds the testes The penis secretes urine and ejaculates semen through a tube called the urethra that runs from the bladder along the length of the penis.

4 Testosterone, the hormone that regulates male sexual development, is also produced in the testes.
Sperm mixes with fluids from the prostate gland and testes to produce semen. The muscular action that forces semen through the urethra and out of the penis is called ejaculation.

5 The testes are located outside the body to keep the sperm cooler than body temperature
A release of semen while the male is sleeping is called a nocturnal emission or “wet dream.” Ejaculation (also known as climax or orgasm) usually only occurs when the penis hardens and stands out from the body as an erection.

6 The epididymis are the network of tubes where sperm are stored.

7 Though rare, the most common cancer among males age 15- 35 is testicular cancer.
A cancer that usually affects men over the age of 55 is prostate cancer.

8 Puberty The time when you develop sexual characteristics of adults of your gender is called puberty.

9 Females Ovaries are the female sex glands. The hormones estrogen and progesterone produced there control sexual development and the maturing of eggs.

10 The two fallopian tubes lead from the ovaries to the uterus
The two fallopian tubes lead from the ovaries to the uterus. An egg travels through it on the way to the uterus. Fertilization takes place in a fallopian tube. The opening at the bottom of the uterus and the top of the vagina is the cervix

11 The vagina is a muscular passageway that leads from the uterus to the outside of the body. Menstrual flow leaves the body through the vagina, and the baby is pushed out of the body through this birth canal The labia are the folds of skin that cover the opening of the vagina.

12 A doctor that specializes in the female reproductive system is a gynecologist.
Toxic shock syndrome is a rare, serious bacterial infection linked to improper tampon use.

13 The inability to produce children is referred to as sterility in men and infertility in women.
