3 Community hospitals review
Summer 2015: we looked at services at the 5 community hospitals in the Surrey Downs area: Cobham Hospital Dorking Hospital Leatherhead Hospital Molesey Hospital New Epsom and Ewell Community Hospital (NEECH) Interaction:- What does this mean to the audience? Do they use or know about community hospitals ?

4 What did we look at? Where services are How many patients they see
Ways to improve care Buildings – and their condition Local health needs Changes in our population and the services we will need in future Where services are located now How many patients they see The quality of care received Opportunities to improve care Condition of the current buildings and care environment The health needs of the local population Population growth and future service demand

5 Summary of recommendations
Admit patients to the nearest available community bed as soon as possible so they can start their recovery Make sure patients only go to a community hospital if it is the right place for them Look at the need for specialist neuro-rehabilitation services Think about other ways of delivering care Buy more physiotherapy and occupational therapy services for people staying in community hospitals Interaction : - is there any considerations that they recommend?

6 The options Dorking Hospital Molesey Hospital
Dorking Hospital Molesey Hospital New Epsom & Ewell Community Hospital (NEECH) Leatherhead Hospital Epsom General Hospital Cobham Hospital  Option 1 No change No change to how services are provided now → Developed as a planned care centre, with a wider range of outpatient services. The ward would remain closed. No change Option 2 Changes to services in the Epsom area Community beds move to Epsom General Hospital on a dedicated community ward. Outpatient services move to other community locations Community beds move from NEECH community hospital to a dedicated community ward at Epsom General Hospital. Option 3 Changes to services in the Molesey and Cobham area Community beds move to Cobham Hospital. Outpatient services move to community locations. Community beds move from Molesey Hospital to Cobham Hospital. Option 4  Changes to services in both Epsom and the Molesey and Cobham area (ie. options 2 & 3 above) Community beds move from Molesey to Cobham Hospital. Community beds move from NEECH to Epsom General Hospital. Outpatient services move to community locations Community beds move from NEECH to Epsom General Hospital. The options Option 1 There would be no change to how services are delivered now but the ward at Leatherhead Hospital would not reopen People in the Leatherhead area have been receiving care in other community hospital wards since December 2014 and care has not been compromised BUT some of the hospitals need development work, which this option does not address Option 2 Facilitates closer working between community services and Epsom General Hospital Improves access to medical support and tests (x-rays. scans etc) BUT the move of NEECH beds onto Epsom Hospital could mean fewer spare beds at the hospital (these are opened when the hospital is particularly busy). Option 3 Molesey Hospital is in need of development and repair work, whereas Cobham is a much newer, purpose-built, hospital BUT patients and staff may have to travel further for care Option 4 Options 2 and 3 above
