4. Is there a better indicator?
In the 1990s the HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX was devised as a measure of quality of life.
It included life expectancy, educational attainment and GDP per capita.
You are going to evaluate this measure using ‘GapMinder’ graphs.
Describe what each graph is showing.
Analyse the relationship between HDI and the three indicators that are used to produce it.
Annotate each graph to show your thoughts and ideas.

9. Is there a better indicator?
The Happy Planet Index measures the extent to which countries deliver long, happy, sustainable lives for the people that live in them. The Index uses global data on life expectancy, experienced well-being and Ecological Footprint to calculate this.
