2. Homework Program
Why? What research points to…
Hattie:
To become skillful in a new area it takes about 50 – 100 hours of practice at something.
In most human learning situations, blocks of 15 to 30 minutes are most effective.
When combined, homework and parental involvement, research indicates significant benefits for the child
When automaticity is lacking there is reduced capacity to think and comprehend

3. Deliberate/purposeful practice
Homework Program
So what is it?
Curriculum based
Deliberate/purposeful practice
Developing automaticity with words, numbers and print.
4 days a week – Monday through Thursday
30 minutes a night ie: 10 minutes on each area
Focus on three areas:
Math Fluency/Operational math
Reading/Dolch Word Lists
Printing/Cursive writing and Keyboarding
Teacher monitored
Parent/guardian supported

4. In the very near future parents will receive:
Homework Program
In the very near future parents will receive:
Letter of introduction (as early as this week, however some may start after Meet the Teacher night)
Skills for the Future ( Description of the program by grade)
Links to newspapers ie: Northern Life and Sudbury Star, games and other educational sites
