1 LESSON 2 Module 4: Working with Images Logos

2 In this lesson, we will: Investigate different logo types and their purpose. Collect various logos and analyze their effectiveness. Create a logo based on them.

3 Guiding Questions What is a logo?
Why would a company want to create a logo? Use the guiding questions as a class starter, allowing the students time to answer the questions in their journal. Discuss student answers to the questions.

6 Inspiration Web of Logos
Open a blank Inspiration file. In the main idea, type “Logos” and the meaning. Go to the Internet to collect logos. Copy and paste at least 6 different logos onto your Inspiration Web (2 symbols, 2 text, 2 symbol and text). Write a brief explanation of the logo (under “Logo” in Inspiration): What it represents and whether or not it is successful. Cite (copy and paste) the Web site address under the logo as well. Save the Inspiration file in your folder. Student Activity

7 Logo Design Make a list of your interests, activities, and beliefs in your journal. Draw 5 sketches of different combinations representing these in your journal. Choose one sketch and finalize it on the handout. Add text if appropriate. Add color using colored pencils or markers. Predict what the logo for “Green Matters” would look like. The company works with global recycling. Ask students to answer questions in their journal, with a partner, or as a whole class.
