GCSE Geography - AQA This is a brand new GCSE with the first exams being sat in 2018. There are three papers, each with a different focus. Paper 1 is a physical geography paper split into three sections, we studied the content in year 9. All three papers have a mixture of short (1-4 marks) and long (9 mark) answers. Paper 2 is a human geography paper with three topics, which we completed studying in year 10. Paper 3 is a Geographical applications paper in which students will be asked about the fieldwork that they have completed as of their course. They will also have a geographical problem with a booklet of information provided to them and they will need to use that information to answer questions and provide a reasoned solution.

How can students succeed in GCSE Geography?
At this point in the year, students should be focusing on revising the content of the GCSE. Students MUST use case studies and real life examples in their longer answer questions in order to receive more than half marks and therefore students revision should be focused on these as well as geographical theory. Watching the news and being aware of what is happening in the world will help! In lessons, we will be focusing on exam technique and structuring answers in order to achieve maximum marks, so high attendance is key Geography Intervention runs every Wednesday week 2 from for homework help or extra guidance on the timetabled topic.
16
How can parents help? Having discussions with students about current affairs and real life examples to help build their confidence as geographers. Many different revision guides are available, Amazon is the cheapest place with the best range. Students have access to different versions in lessons and many have a preference! In the weeks running up to the November mock exams, students will receive a set of "knowledge organisers", one for each topic in paper 1 and 2. These are revision overview sheets for the topic and contain key phrases and some of the content students should know. They can be used to test students and as a guide for you if they are stuck. There are lots of online revision resources, such as GCSEPod and Cool Geography. There is a list of these in the revision letter you have received. Plenty of tea and biscuits!
