Intentional: physical aspects we deliberately use Example: Winking Accidental: physical aspects that happen naturally Example: Tears

Types of Non-Verbals Appearance: Object Language: Our apparel, use of accessories and general appearance send a message Gestures: Movements with arms and hands

Types of Non-Verbals Posture: Alignment of the spine and neck
Correct posture = Stand up straight Shoulders back Head up

Types of Non-Verbals Eye Contact: Amount of time looking into another’s eyes Spread out time spent looking at each audience member Not too long or too short

Types of Non-Verbals Facial Expressions: Feelings presented in a persons face *MUST MATCH YOUR VERBAL MESSAGE!

Varying pitches are easier to listen to Rate: Speed of speech Varying the rates are easier to listen to Volume: Loudness and Softness of speech Varying volumes are easier to listen to
