April 12, 1998 AD - What Are We To make Of Jesus Christ? C.S. Lewis, 1950 Questions for Discussion How are we to solve the historical problem set us by the recorded sayings of this Man? How can we reconcile the generally admitted sanity of His moral teachings with the quite appalling nature of His theological remarks? If you asked Buddha if he was the son of Bramah, he would have said… If you asked Socrates if he was Zeus, he would have … If you asked Mohamed if he was Allah, he would have … Could this (story) be an exaggerated account by His followers? Could this (story) be a legend ? Can the strangest story of His resurrection be true? (There is no question of what we can make of Him, it is entirely a question of:0 what He intends to make of us? There are only two alternatives: Reject the Story or Follow Him. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him … or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. Either Christianity is true, or it isn’t. And if it isn’t, then Christianity is the greatest fraud, the most colossal “ sell” on record. Isn’t it obviously the job of every man to try to find out which, and then devote his full energies either to serving this tremendous secret or to exposing and destroying this gigantic humbug? 1 Corinthians 15
