Oliveira de Azeméis is a small municipality with inhabitants in the Northern Region of Portugal, near PORTO.

4. INDUSTRY
Oliveira de Azeméis is a highly industrialized area, especially in the following fields:
Metallurgy, metalworking (mainly moulds for the plastic industry), plastic (mainly components for the car industry), shoes and footwear, dairy products, rice husking, mattresses, copper and metal ware production.

5. Culture
The Municipality has a strong cultural activity. There are around two hundred associations. Among other cultural local activities, the most popular are “Ciclo Primavera” (´Spring Cycle) and “Mercado à Moda Antiga” (Old Time Market).
Thousands of people crowd the city centre to attend these events.
The Book Fair, The Youth Festival, theatre plays, exhibitions, and shows are other important cultural activities that take place throughout the year.

6. Tourism
Nowadays tourism is one of the strengths of the Municipality, not only due to the important and varied architectural, cultural and natural patrimony but also because of the sports and business tourism. Among other mandatory places, La Salette Park and the Chapel are well worth a visit. The Park is an excellent place for leisure activities and there are several spots from where visitors can enjoy wonderful views to the surrounding areas. Folklore is part of the traditions, and cultural heritage of the Municipality. The festivities of Our lady of La Salette, which take place in August, are the most popular in the municipality.

Kindergarten – 1389 ( ages 3-6)
Primary schools – 2122 (6-10)
Elementary schools – 1122 (ages 10-12)
High schools – 1165 (ages 12-15)
Secondary school – 959 (ages 15-18)

10. Past Experience in European Projects
TR1-COM Lifelong Learning - COMENIUS REGIO PARTNERSHIP - "Developing Interregional and Local Cooperation Mechanisms to Avoid Substance Addiction at Schools – Healthy Generations“ The primary goal of the project was “Avoiding bad habits at young people by means of creating awareness through establishing partnerships between related institutions around pupil – school – family – social background – NGO circle”.

11. Past Experience in European Projects
IT2-GRU Lifelong Learning - GRUNDTVIG Learning Partnerships - Happy Home Wallet
The Municipality developed awareness raising activities and implemented measures on local level, exchanged and transferred experiences and good practices with the members of the partnership and shared results and relevant data on the topic with partners and local population.
As a result, the project brought practical knowledge and measurable results, which will improve the quality of life of the citizens and lead to a sustainable economic and social growth. 1

12. Interest in the project
The integration of the municipality as a partner was meant to have a small and controlled field trial for education/school context as the municipality is small and accounts only with 2 school clusters in its area.
This will allow to test the models and generate policy recommendations to the Ministry and to the other municipalities
