Child prodigy in mathematics
Worked at NACA and NASA
Her work with analytic geometry helped her in the field

Calculated the launch window for the Mercury Mission
Checked computer calculations for John Glen’s orbit around the Earth. Glen refused to fly without her approval of the calculations.
