1 Meditation Monday Pray for 4 specific people who are in need.
Thank God for 3 things you are grateful for. Ask for help or comfort for 2 things that weigh on you. Identify 1 thing that God is calling you to DO today.

2 Today is the Sabbath! (pretend)
Use this as leisure time. You may read, draw, take a nap, play a game, relax or do some other activity. Stipulations This is NOT a study hall. Absolutely no work is to be done. NO phones

3 Remember to keep holy the Lord’s day
3rd Commandment Remember to keep holy the Lord’s day

4 Teambuilding Tuesday Come up with a handshake with your group.
Each person must contribute Must include all members

5 With Your Partner Think back to what you did this past Sunday. Share with your shoulder partner.

6 Sabbath Comes from the Hebrew word shabbat meaning “to cease.”
Saturday for the Jews.

7 Sabbath in the OT “Six days shall work be done; but on the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work’ it is a sabbath to the Lord in all your dwellings” Leviticus 23:3 Rest and obligation of Sabbath Strict rules on following the Sabbath Dictated how far you could walk!

8 Sabbath in the NT Jesus performs miracles and heals on the Sabbath. Pharisee and Sadducees are horrified. See Mark 3:1-6, Luke 13:10-17 Early Christians still recognized the Jewish Sabbath on Saturday. Celebrated the Eucharist on Sunday (the Lord’s Day).

9 Commands us to DO Go to mass every Sunday and on Holy Days of obligation Rest/Relax Have fun/Celebrate Works of Charity and Mercy

10 Going to Mass The Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives.
We are not doing God a “favor” for going to mass. The Holy Mass is for us, it is where we receive the “Bread of Life.” It is a mortal sin to miss mass without a legitimate excuse.

11 Rest/Relax Sunday is a time to be spent with family.
Dedicated time for leisure. “On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord's Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body.123 Family needs or important social service can legitimately excuse from the obligation of Sunday rest. the faithful should see to it that legitimate excuses do not lead to habits prejudicial to religion, family life, and health.” CCC 2185

12 Works of Charity Works of Mercy are permitted and even encouraged on Sunday. The Sabbath does not prohibit good works. “Sunday is a time for reflection, silence, cultivation of the mind, and meditation which furthers the growth of the Christian interior life”

13 Commands us NOT to do Missing mass on purpose or by not trying to get to mass through all possible means. Unnecessary servile labor

14 What is servile labor? Heavy manual labor
Any activity that hinders the renewal of the soul Unnecessary shopping or housekeeping Needles work or business

15 “Sanctifying Sundays and holy days requires a common effort
“Sanctifying Sundays and holy days requires a common effort. Every Christian should avoid making unnecessary demands on others that would hinder them from observing the Lord's Day. Traditional activities (sport, restaurants, etc.), and social necessities (public services, etc.), require some people to work on Sundays, but everyone should still take care to set aside sufficient time for leisure. With temperance and charity the faithful will see to it that they avoid the excesses and violence sometimes associated with popular leisure activities. In spite of economic constraints, public authorities should ensure citizens a time intended for rest and divine worship. Employers have a similar obligation toward their employees.” CCC 2187
