2 Spirit of 2012 Trust Spirit of Ruchill/ Possilpark is part of Spirit 2012’s Commonwealth Games Legacy Programme, Fourteen The Ruchill and Possilpark Thriving Places Group applied for the Spirit 2012 funding – and were successful!! Ruchill/ Possilpark has a resource budget of up to £250,000 over 3years to increase participation in one of more of these areas

3 The Panel A panel, made up of local people, oversee the distribution of the budget, based on the ideas and aspirations of local people and groups. There are 12 members on the panel. Spirit panel work alongside partners and organisations.

4 The Panel Are at the heart of designing, deciding and distributing funds They decide how to increase participation in grassroots sports; culture and arts; youth leadership and development and social action and volunteering (one or more) Undertook learning/ research into community budgeting. 5 Community Budgeting “Is about local people making decisions directly over how local budgets are spent” “It is a method which gives over the decision making power on the allocation of community grants to the people of the local area”

6 Our first event

7 Spark in the Park Over 250 local people bought tickets and came along. They shared a meal, enjoyed the entertainment and voted for one of six local grassroots projects. Our first community budgeting event

8 Spark in the Park The panel were the steering group to decide criteria for applicants & to plan/deliver event Grants of up to £500 to support community-led action (unconstituted groups) 6 groups pitched on the night (4 mins) No technology 214 votes cast £3,500 distributed

9 “The spark in the park event was a special night, and I for one felt very privileged to have been welcomed to the celebration. I loved the fact that this was a community led event with residents from some of the different pockets of community around North Glasgow in the same space celebrating their ideas, what they care about and who they are as individual communities. For me it was a huge testament to the idea that "citizens do it better" with organisations and workers doing as they should and supporting the community instead of doing for the community.” (Kieran, CHIP, Barnardos)

10 What Next……… £25,455 secured from Scottish Government’s Community Choices Fund Two events planned: - 5,4,3,2,1 on 26th Nov - Larger event on 25th Feb 2017: grants of £1,000, Marketplace approach & digital voting

Community members taking an active role in voting, supporting and leading action in their communities Devolving decision making power Celebrating and sharing talents/successes Reaching out and providing funding to new groups
