Career counseling and assessments Employment counseling and job search Advocacy (STAND) Assistance with international educational evaluation Explain that college is different than high school and college success requires on a set of strong SOFT SKILLS AND HARD SKILLS; Hard skills will allow students to enter credit courses and use their grants wisely Soft skills are the skills that support learning and make it easier to finish college. For example, study skills, time management skills, stress management skills, self-advocacy skills Career counseling is important to those that are not sure what they want to do next. RIRAL offers a comprehensive and individualized career assessment program that helps people decide on their career – college majors or employment Employment assistance – RIRAL is not an employment agency, but our Transition Counselors can help with job search – resumes, locating employers, approaching employers Students Taking Action Now with Determination: RIRAL strongly supports RI’s adult students’ organization STAND. RIRAL offers stipends (up to $1000 a year) for students who commit to advocacy work. STAND makes it possible for the students’ voice to be heard about the issues in adult education that students them selves find to be important If you would like to take advantage of any of these service talk to your teacher Point person for these referrals at RIRAL is Pat Bellart

Cash or money order only, please. No personal checks.
Costs? Cash or money order only, please. No personal checks. Registration fee $15 (non-refundable and expires June 30 each year) ABE/ASE classes are free, but you will be asked to purchase your own math books ($25-$30). If you change levels during the year, you will need to purchase another math book. RIRAL will supply classroom sets of the Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science books and materials. These are available for purchase on request ($25-$30 each). ABE/ASE/ESL classes are paid for by the people who pay taxes. Collected taxes in the USA are distributed to different departments. Unfortunately, Department of Education is spending less and less money on programs that offer free adult education classes It is important that we show that people are benefiting from these programs
14
Class Schedule (example)
October 6 – December 10 Monday – Wednesday 6:00pm-8:30pm Language Arts Math Science & Social Studies Class placement is based on tests scores and availability. Placement is NOT guaranteed. Students can choose to come to only one class If a student’s life is busy, we recommend that they start with one class and add another one the following semester
15
Remember If you miss more than 25% of classes RIRAL will consider an early termination from the class, so that your place can be offered to another person. If you have been terminated for attendance too many times RIRAL may give future admission preference to students with better attendance histories or first time applicants. Attendance is important! We risk loosing funding if we don’t meet state requirements. We can help you find another program if you can no longer attend with us. If you will be late call the main office or….. (your site’s practices) If you will absent call the main office or….. (your site’s practices) If coming to school is becoming more challenging for whatever reason, talk to your teacher – do not just stop coming
