1 The sample of words from the Czech Reading Test:
Assessment of cognitive decline in patients treated for cerebral aneurysm using Czech Reading Test. Kramska, L.1 Nechanicka Mrklasova N.2 Hradil, J. 2 Preiss, M. 3,4 1 Neurocenter, Epilepsy Unit, Na Homoce Hospital, Prague 2 Regional Hospital Liberec 3 Prague Psychiatric Center 4 University of New York in Prague Introduction Kramska, 2014) in patients after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). A point to note, whereas Czech pronunciation has fixed rules, Czech Reading Test was constructed using loaned words. The Czech NART has favorable psychometric characteristics: internal consistency, high correlation with the education and intellect in healthy subjects, as seen in its Anglo-Saxon version. We obtained a significant model for predicting premorbid IQ using the CRT. Reading ability highly correlated with general education r=0.56, Verbal IQ r=0.83 and Information r=0.76 as well as Vocabulary r=0.85 subtests from WAIS-R, in the sample of healthy subjects, in all equaled p<0.05. Reliability was measured by Cronbach's Alpha (α=0.94). Reading of irregular words represents one of the most often used methods for evaluating of premorbid intellect performance in neuropsychology (for example North American Adult Reading Test (NAART, Blair & Spreen, 1989), American National Adult Reading Test (AMNART, Grober & Sliwinski, 1991), Wechsler Test of Adult Reading (WTAR, Wechsler, 2001), Wide Range Achievement Test Reading (WRAT-4 – Wilkinson & Robertson, 2006) and Shipley-2 (Shipley, 2008)). The aim of the study was to assess cognitive performance and premorbid intellect level using Czech Reading Test (CRT, Methods The sample of words from the Czech Reading Test: Since , 241 patients (163 f/78 m) with diagnosed cerebral aneurysm were treated at the Dept. of Neurosurgery, Regional Hospital Liberec. Of these patients, 105 were able to undergo neuropsychological assessment at least one year after intervention (patients with good neurological outcome). Standardized neuropsychological tests were used to assess actual (WAIS-R, Wechsler, 1983) and also premorbid cognitive performance (Czech Reading Test). One treatment protocol was used by the same team. CRESCENDO JURY LAUDATIO GAGY DOYEN CURLING SPIELMAN ORATIO ETUDA MARSEILLAISA BEATNICKÝ CURACAO MILIEU Results Observed Full-Scale IQ was 95.3 (14.3), Verbal IQ was 95.2 (14.1) and Performance IQ was 95.7 (14.4). CRT predicted Full-Scale, Verbal and Performance IQ were (10.6), (11.3) and 103 (7.6), respectively. The observed Full-Scale, Verbal and Performance IQ were significantly lower in comparison with CRT predicted quotients (p<.001). It is useful to involve tests of premorbid intellect in the group of patients after SAH from cerebral aneurysms. In most cases there is absence of information about premorbid performance level and tests results from premorbid period. Czech Reading Test seems to be useful and appropriate method in patients after SAH with good neurological outcome.
